We bring together interdisciplinary experts to enable the voluntary exchange of national legal review practices to promote transparency, national capacity and confidence building.
Sydney
28-30 March 2023
The inaugural Expert Meeting on the Legal Review of Autonomous Weapons was hosted by the Australian Defence Force and held in Sydney from 28-30 March 2023.
The meeting was attended by experts including representatives from six States (Australia, Brazil, New Zealand, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States).

16-18 April 2024
The Second Expert Meeting on the Legal Review of AWS was also held in Sydney from 16-18 April 2024.
The meeting was attended by non-government and government experts including representatives from eight States (Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States).

Geneva
10-11 March 2025
The Third Expert Meeting on the Legal Review of AWS was held in Geneva from 10-11 March 2025.
The meeting was attended by 65 experts including representatives from 24 States (Australia, Austria, Canada, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Italy, Israel, Nicaragua, Norway, Morocco, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and the United States).

Stockholm
24-26 March 2026
The Fourth Expert Meeting on the Legal Review of AWS will be hosted by the Swedish Defence Research Agency and be held in Stockholm from 24-26 March 2026.
The meeting will continue the work of the previous meetings and include a focus on the legal review of AI decision support systems. An optional, capacity building day is available on 26 March 2026 for States looking to refine or develop their national legal review practices.
